It strikes me a bit more as dwvid juvenile read than a YA read. It also was not soured down by romance, if anything it was a fantasy aimed more towards adventurous.

The Finisher

It’s a world-building philosophy that pushes beyond regular lazy and closes in on inane. After about pages, his fake fantasy vocabulary did downgrade from threat level “Immediate Book Finihser to a more manageable “Massive Eye Roll,” but it never became palatable.

The other characters in The Finisher are just as finely written, but I’m going to pass on discussing them in an effort to avoid spoilers. What do we enjoy about them so much? I thought this was a really great book. She lives with her perceptive younger brother in the slums while their parents lay in the hospital The Care, struck by an unspecified illness that renders them useless. I found myself looking forward to reading the next chapter.

Although story contains some great original ideas, it also falls victim to several YA dystopian cliches including a seemingly average heroine, a romantic love interest, deadly magical creatures, children forced to fight each other in battle, and much more. This sets a series of events that pushes Vega to search for answers to her ever growing list of questions about her family, Wormwood and The Quag Vega stumbles into an unknown history, a fiisher of monsters and magic and a purpose bigger than her being a Finisher.

I have enjoyed all of Baldacci’s previous books very much but was quite surprised when I started this one. Apr 05, Tim rated it did not like it. I know there are finisger books to follow but most of the time I didn’t feel like I knew quite what was going on, and while in some ways that kept me reading, I also felt dacid little disoriented. Is it OK for kids to read books outside their reading levels? A lot or a little? If you liked The Hunger Games you’ll like The Finisher and this adult would also buy the next book in this series to follow the saga of Vega Jane, her friend Delphi and her dog, Harry Two, as they discover worlds beyond their own should Baldacci decide to continue their journey beyond the QUAG.
