Except instead of trying to blend in as a girl, Sam spends his time convincing them to act “masculine” by telling them it’s cool, and ‘American’ to grab their crotches and glare at people.

Children are often put into boxes and treated differently because of gender, this book breaks the rules and it genius. If the characters in fact ARE to be taken seriously that would mean that instead of exploring and dismissing gender binaries, this book actually promotes the idea of gender as something completely binary.

Review: Boy 2 Girl by Terence Blacker | Books | The Guardian

Everyone’s perspective is in this book, and it’s easy to see what everyone’s thinking. Jaunty and fast-paced YA novel about a tough-talking year-old California boy who moves to England to live terenve his aunt’s family and winds up passing as a girl at his new school when a prank gets out of hand.

Sam is prickly, tough, but clearly deeply upset by the absence of his father. Real missed opportunity here.

Sep 25, Sabina rated it it was amazing. His cosein, Matt, who is Sam’s aunt’s son, is not too happy about Sam’s arrival. Blwcker, come on, guys, all this to put one over on a bunch of chicks?

Gender blender

It’s a good read but despite the premise of challenging gender stereotypes, does nothing beyond reinforcing them. From influencing their fashions to the way they act around boys—Sam brings a jaw-dropping jolt of fresh air to his new English gal pals.

Sam ist eine liebenswerte Person, auch wenn man das zu Boh2girl nicht denken mag.

This book is one of the few books about gender a teenager will pick up and like. Desperate to get their own back, Matthew and his best friends cook up a brilliant, outrageous plot that will bring Sam down a peg or two AND deal a stunning blow to the bitchiest girls at school. Told from multiple viewpoints including both teens and adultsthe story offers several entertaining twists such as Sam inheriting a fortune and playing a game of cat and mouse with his long-absent, criminal father.

Jan 03, Sara rated it it was ok Shelves: A nice read overall. I guess it had some kind of point to make, but I was too busy focusing on all the other things the story was saying, possibly without meaning to. Sam is small, blond and wild – with a giant attitude problem – and he immediately starts to wreak havoc on Matthew’s social life.
